What is Precious Metal Clay?

The Art of Alchemy……….

Precious Metal Clay originated in Japan. Art clay silver is 100% recycled silver particles mixed with an organic binder and water for use in making jewellery, beads and small sculptures.

Precious metal clay can come in several forms, lump clay, syringe paste and paper.

Metal clay can also come in gold, copper and bronze, all of which can be shaped just like any clay by hand or moulds. After it has dried, the clay is then fired either by hand (handheld gas torch, gas stove) or a kiln depending on the type of clay and metal it is, burning away the binder and leaving 99.9% fine silver.

Once fired precious metal clay can be Hallmarked as fine silver 99.9% at any UK Assay Office. I am registered with the London Assay Office. To find out more about Hallmarking the click on the word ‘Hallmarked’ above and it will take you to my Hallmarking page where the Dealers Notice is situated.
